Healthy Morning Cocktail

Alyssa Coleman is a holistic nutritionist and has been writing about how to love your body using nutrition. Below, she shares her insight, plus a recipe for a healthy morning cocktail. Bottom’s up!

Some mornings call for a mimosa or two, but the conventional cocktail can be full of liquid calories, acne causing sugar, and liver congesting alcohol. This morning cocktail is for the days when you want to unleash your inner fit girl, enjoy a mini detox, create glowing skin, burn calories, and improve your energy.

This recipe was inspired by the “Detox Elixir” in my “Free-spirited Babe’s Detox”, the ingredients in the cocktail are specifically combined to work on a few key organ systems.

Liver

The liver plays the largest role in detoxification by filtering through everything you eat, drink, put on your skin and breath in. The liver is usually working over time so it’s nice to support it by consuming some liver loving foods. Lemon and apple cider vinegar will help boost your bile production and help your liver to function optimally.

Skin

We all want glowing skin right? I’ve tried just about every cream and serum promising a Jlo glow. But the best solution I’ve found for clearing up any skin issues is to feed your skin the nutrients it needs to flourish. Apple cider vinegar is full of beneficial bacteria that will improve your intestinal flora, and prevent the overgrowth of sugar eating bacterial issues such as candida. Apple cider vinegar can also balance the skin’s pH level resulting in that coveted glow.

Digestion

It is really important to kick start your digestion first thing in the morning to help you feel more energized and avoid bloating. The lemon and cayenne pepper with get your digestive juices flowing.

Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail

Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients we’re combining:

Lemon is a natural detoxifier because the vitamin C in it helps turn toxins into a digestible material for your body to eliminate. Lemon also stimulates the liver and bile production which helps to oxygenate and detoxify the body.

Apple cider vinegar Studies show that apple cider vinegar prevents the body from accumulating fat. It also improves digestion and absorption of vital nutrients which allow your body to function optimally. Make sure to use apple cider vinegar “with the mother” to get the most acetic acid benefits.

Cayenne pepper increases your internal body temperature and kick starts your metabolism and reduces bloating.

Raw honey is full of beneficial enzymes and gut improving minerals. Having suboptimal gut function allows bacteria to grow into the small intestines causing skin issues.
